Thoughts on AIG
AIG has taken $180 billion dollars from the government. Now they are giving out bonuses, which are claimed and might in fact be due to contractual obligations to employees, to the tune of $165 million. It seems to me that we should not even be having this conversation. The conversation which we should be having is this: Why is AIG still in business? We are all aware of the fact the government bailed them out with money and said they were too big to fail. Those things still should not have saved them. Let me explain my position. If you were doing business with AIG what incentive do you have to continue to do so. Personally, if I had an investment or an insurance policy with AIG, I would be looking for some else to do business with. Makes sense, doesn’t it? The market should have already sealed their fate and yet some how, this has not yet happened. This fact alone makes me wonder if the Wall Street and the general populace even have a clue. I for one would not continue business dealings with any company on the way to financial ruin. I would suggest that everyone who is upset, with the bonuses given in spite of the largest quarterly loss in history and the taking of money from the government, should very loudly suggest to every one that they know who does business with AIG stop. Full stop. That will stop the bonuses and the flow of tax payer money.
